Service Learning Hub

Service-Learning Designation Deadline:  New and Renewals due October 3, 2008

Welcome to The Hub, where information about the University of Utah's service-learning program is at your fingertips.  Whether you are a faculty member, student, community partner or merely interested in campus-community connections, this is the place for you!

The Lowell Bennion Community Service Center is home to service-learning at the "U."  The center also houses 44 student-directed programs, Service Politics and Civic Engagement (SPACE), Bend-in-the-River Urban Treehouse and America Reads.

Definition of Service Learning

The first service-learning classes were offered in 1992 and the number continues to grow with each semester.  All disciplines offer classes with service-learning either integrated into the course or as an option.  Exceptional projects have come out of these classes!  The U's service-learning program is consistently ranked among the best in the country.

The Hub is a very powerful tool, allowing community partners, faculty and students to communicate with one another about community service opportunities, service-learning classes and projects. Partners can register and describe projects that they would like students to work on in the future.  Faculty can enter their courses and the learning objectives for each one, accompanied by examples of suitable community projects.  Students can choose projects, sign up for orientations, and email their partners right from the database.

You are invited to look around, enter your information, and let The Hub further the excellence of service-learning as a method of teaching and learning at the University of Utah and in our community!

If you have questions, please call the Katie Olson, Service-Learning Manager at 585-9100 or email to slmanager@sa.utah.edu.  Have fun and use this tool to the max !
